Sunless Tanning Advice
Everyone wants to have that healthy bronzed tan look but these days sun damage to the skin is a real concern. That is where sunless tanning comes in; you can get the sun-kissed look without damaging your skin.
Currently there are a number of different "sunless" tanning methods, so which is best for you?
1. Tanning Pills
They have been on the market for a number of years, but let me make this quite clear - DO NOT USE TANNING PILLS! You can buy a variety of different pills online, the ingredients vary wildly and most are not approved for human use. Some are useless and will have no effect. Some can cause permanent lasting damage to your health. Caretenoid tanning pills, one of the most common type, do 'work' by depositing vegetable based pigments under the skin in fat cells. However as fat is unevenly distributed within the body tissues, the tanning effects are usually uneven. Also taking too many Caretenoid pills, to further enhance your color, can have a negative effect on the body, including eye and liver damage.
2. Tanning Beds
These are a popular option, some people even have these at home. There is no doubt that they do work, you can get an even, bronze tan by using a tanning bed. However, they have a similar negative effect on the skin as natural sunlight so they are not considered a "safe" tanning method. Even though most tanning beds? use mostly UVA rays rather than the UVA/UVB rays emitted by the sun they can still damage the skin. Both UVA and UVB rays are damaging to the skin, and not recommended for optimal skin aging and health.
3. Spray Tanning
This is the most popular method to use if you want a safe, even, natural looking tan. Sunless tanning solutions or liquids have been improved dramatically from the tanning solutions that were being made years ago. The most important thing here is for you, the customer, to be aware of - be sure your spray tan technician uses the proper strength formula for your skin type. The stronger or darker formulas are NOT for everyone and more does not mean a better or browner tan. Remember, this is your body and you have to walk around with this spray tan for at least 1 week. ALWAYS ask your spray tan tech if he or she is skin typing you to the right strength spray tanning solution for your unique needs.
If they tell you 'we only use one tanning solution on all our clients' we advise you to take your patronage elsewhere,? chances are you may not like the results you get. For example: If you naturally have olive skin, then the solution that is sprayed on your skin should be stronger or deeper in color than the solution sprayed on a very pale skinned red headed customer.
When you buy facial makeup foundation, you do not buy "one size fits all" - why would you use a one size fits all sunless solution?
